Labor Day Weekend GETAWAY - Day Two

Our morning started out with a cooked meal
by the camping chief extraordinaire.
He insists on having GOOD breakfasts when camping
and that always includes his favorite, BACON.
So I let him do the cookin'.

After packing up camp, we drove to
Upper Stillwater Dam for a family friendly hike.

But we didn't take the easy way
no, we had to take...

The
Road Less Traveled.

Yes it is the scenic route,
but it is less traveled for a reason.

It takes longer to get there,
and tends to be a little (no a lot) more bumpy.

Not to mention it looks like a one lane road
however it is NOT.

We almost crashed with one other vehicle
and at least two ATV's.

How come there aren't warnings
like these ever mentioned on the road maps.

Certain roads are keyed as a SCENIC ROUTE
but these roads are also the
...

-could easily drive off the edge route
-could crash into ATV's going way too fast route
-could easily distract you with all the beautiful scenery route
-could go insane from the the children getting sick of the winding road route

Needless to say we reached our destination
and despite the trail being very popular for hikers on horseback,
(and thus having to stay clear of all the horse poop)
it was a nice family hike
and it felt wonderful to be outside
enjoying all the beautiful things that were created for us.

I don't know why
but being outdoors in the mountains
always makes me feel closer to my Heavenly Father
and for that I am always grateful.
